Brussels, 19 Novembre 2019
Dear Mr Sbrissa,
Five years ago, I was appointed Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility in the European Commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker.
Today, as my mandate comes to an end, I want to share my gratitude with you and your organisation. Thank you for all those years of professional dedication, commitment, cooperation and support. The results we have reaped are the result of this teamwork.
We focused on making sure that people can learn the skills they need to thrive in the changing world of work.
We found ways to help young people into jobs.
We made a big step forward to ensure fair labour mobility across Europe, with the revision of our rules on posting and the new European Labour Authority.
We protected workers against cancer-causing chemicals on the work floor.
We passed our accessibility act, a major achievement for people with disabilities.
We made sure, in the changing world of work, that all workers will benefit from clear and transparent working conditions and have access to social protection.
We created better opportunities for work-life balance.
And with the European Pillar of Social Rights, the European Union has a compass to tackle employment and social challenges in the years to come.
It was an honour for me to be the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility the past five years. It was an honour to work with European Vocational Training Association and I am proud of the work we achieved together, especially when it comes to giving vocational education and training greater profile.
